Ceramics II

1 semester (1/2 credit)
Grades: 10 -12
Prerequisite: Ceramics I with a grade of "C" or better is recommended.

The Ceramics II class builds on skills learned in Ceramics I through advanced hand-built projects and an introduction to the potter's wheel.   Assignments will require thoughtful application of the Elements and Principles of Art and creative visual problem solving.  Students will also work toward developing individual interests and a greater sense of self direction in their art work. As an upper level art class students are expected be self compelled to give their best effort toward developing their skills, ideas, and understanding of art. Students are expected to keep a sketch journal for idea development and will participate in critiques to discuss and evaluate ceramic art work.  Learning to use the potters wheel takes a considerable amount time and students will likely need to work outside of regularly scheduled class time in order to complete the work required for the class.  The ceramics room is open at least one day a week after school to provide an "open studio" time in which students can work on the wheel or complete other clay work.
